Sir Elton John

It's Sir Elton John!!  ... doing what all Super Stars do after a long day of fun hanging out with friends and just having a wonderful time Lovin' Life!  We are so happy to see that he has not a care in the world!  Sir Elton John came to LLR in 2016 from a bad breeder / hoarding situation in Kentucky.  We found his Forever Family in a wonderful mom who loves him so much.  Elton is becoming quite the "jet-setter", as this inseparable pair recently moved from Chicago to the Big Apple.  Be on the lookout for a performance at Madison Square Garden...  This rescue pup will bring down the howl-se!!

Legislation Update

NAVS / IFER Fellowship Recipient (Karen Samy) Developing Animal-Free Drug Testing Method.  Karen's project is aimed at developing a three-dimensional cell-based model to mimic the microenvironment of the intestine to perform drug permeability studies in hopes that pharmaceutical companies will use it.  "This would help LIMIT THE USE OF ANIMALS in early drug testing and improve the efficiency of the drug development process," Karen noted.  GO, Karen!  LLR is a fan!

S.1559 / HR.1258 - Pet And Women Safety (PAWS) Act.  No one should have to choose between leaving an abuser and protecting a beloved pet, yet far too many women are forced to make this very choice.

The solution is the Pet And Women Safety (PAWS) Act.  This legislation would help protect women and their pets in two ways:  by setting a national policy that includes protections for pets of domestic violence victims and by establishing a federal grant program to assist in acquiring a safe shelter for pets.

HB 4292 & HB 4297 - Help Require the Adoption of Animals Used in Research.  Two bills were introduced in the Illinois House, both entitled the Research Dogs and Cats Adoption Act, that would require institutions of higher education that receive public funding for scientific, educational, and research purposes to offer cats and dogs used in research to animal rescue organizations for adoption instead of euthanizing the animals.  The bills would also require facilities that conduct research in collaboration with institutions of higher education to work with animal rescue organizations to adopt out healthy animals after the research is complete.
